For those who are interested in actually reading the Illinois law that Sen. Barack Obama voted for, here is the link to read it.

I would like to stress the phrase in the last sentence: “that Obama voted for”. He did not introduce the legislation. It was sponsored (introduced) by Sens. Carol Ronen, M. Maggie Crotty, Susan Garrett, Iris Y. Martinez, and Jeffrey M. Schoenberg.

I was unable to find a source that gave a list of those who voted in favor of the bill and those who voted against it. Sen. Barack Obama was just one of many who voted for the Bill. I find it so very interesting that the social conservatives who would like to turn this country into a theocracy focus only on Sen. Obama. What about all the others who voted for the Bill – are you working to turn them out of office also? I find it particularly interesting that 4 of the 5 sponsors of the Bill were women – presumably mothers who had the best interests of their children in mind.

It makes for dry reading, but it is pretty tame stuff, unless, that is, you don’t believe that the State has any role whatsoever in sex education. If that is the case, then may I recommend homeschooling?

IMPORTANT UPDATE, September 17, 2008:

From Yahoo News: “Obama voted for the sex education bill in committee in 2003 as an Illinois states senator, but he was not the sponsor of that legislation. The bill also would have required age-appropriate information in schools and would have allowed parents to pull their children from sex education classes if they wished. It never became law.”

No wonder I was never able to find a list of those who voted for and against it: the bill never made it out of committee.
