Carrying Water for Obama

This is one of the funniest political videos that I have watched in a long, long time. The mainstream TV networks just love war, because it is so spectacularly violent and attracts millions of people who also watch the advertisements, thus fattening their bottom lines. Every TV network has its talking heads who parrot the official line out of Washington. That’s what makes this video so funny – watch it until the end, when you will witness an astonishing response to Christine Romans that infuriates her – watch her body language. And then watch how fast the spin-meisters get rid of their antagonist. Do I have any bets as to the likelihood of Michael Scheuer appearing again on CNN?

Michael Scheuer is a former 22-year employee of the CIA and headed the unit (from 1996-1999) that tracked Osama bin Laden at the Counterterrorist Center. I’m quite sure he knows a whole lot more about the issue than the talking heads featured in this video. It is Mr. Scheuer’s contention that bin Laden is seeking to bankrupt the United States as a way to reduce its influence as a world power. I’d say that Michael is right. Wasting billions of dollars that could be more productively deployed to employ Americans, re-build our infrastructure, teach our children, provide health care for all, and find ways to reduce our dependence on oil sounds like a recipe for disaster. A disaster that both the Republican and the Democratic Parties are leading us towards. People who know me consider me a contrarian but I was bewitched by the silver tongue of Obama in 2008 and voted for him. I regret that. I won’t do it again. I promise.

Why did we do it then?

If by “it” you mean the wars “we” are engaged in, it is because Americans are ignorant and are led by the rings in their noses through sophisticated propaganda created by the ruling elite, who care for nothing other than lining their pockets. The video is proof of the effectiveness of the propaganda. If by “it” you mean electing Obama, again, it is because Americans are ignorant of the truth because they have been misled by sophisticated propaganda that leads them to make the wrong decisions. Again, the video is stunning proof of the effectiveness of the ruling elite’s propaganda. “We” don’t run this country – “they” do. I’m voting third party next time – I’ll never again vote for a Republican or a Democrat. I’m wasting my vote by voting for the Republicans or Democrats, so the argument that I’m wasting my vote by voting third party is meaningless. The political system in this country is irretrievably broken and we need to build a new movement that enables us, the people, to direct the “leaders” of this country to do what we want them to do.

I think it all boils down to a very simple thing. Campaign contributions and lobbyists. It’s legalized bribery. And who can bribe the best but the people (corporations) with the money. Until that’s fixed, it’s going to be slow-going for real change.

You got it. It takes a lot of money to create and disseminate effective propaganda. The corporations own the media in this country so try watching Al Jazeera instead. It’s very difficult to discover the truth but you sure won’t find it by watching CNN or MSNBC. Or Fox, for that matter.

Yeah, and now they’re trying to get rid of NPR. But at least we have the Internet. Al Jazeera? I always think of that as a Muslim news program. I get my real news from Real Time With Bill Maher, ha ha.

Al Jazeera was started in 1996 and is understandably focused on the Arabic world. Al Jazeera English started in November, 2006 and has stories from around the world, though its focus is still the Arabic world. It doesn’t hurt to see the world through eyes other than the corporate media here in this country. Go to their website – you might be surprised.
