According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/plants.usda.gov\/java\/profile?symbol=VISO\">USDA<\/a> Natural Resources Conservation Service website, it is a common plant throughout the eastern two-thirds of the United States.  It doesn&#8217;t grow in South Florida, though.  If I ever establish a flower garden on my property, I think this would be a plant to consider.
