Some time ago, I posted a short piece about the issue of racism in the campaign for president between John McCain and Barack Obama. Since that time, the issue has become more prominent and a teacher in Florida has been suspended from his job for writing CHANGE on the whiteboard and then detailing what that word, when used as an acronym, means. I learned about this incident yesterday morning when a co-worker asked us what the word meant and then proceeded to tell us. He prefaced his remarks by explaining that it was a “joke”. The joke was on him, in my opinion, because I have no room in my heart for bigots.
