Since it seems as though it has been “open season” on Liberals for quite a long time, I think it is way past time to define what it is that is so horrible that electing Liberals will lead to the destruction of this country. So, with considerable help from a wonderful website, I hereby offer an outline of what it means to be a Liberal. In a later post, I will also offer what it means to be a Conservative. A true Conservative, not a follower of the garbage being touted as Conservatism by the Bush crowd. Now, don’t be fooled by the title of this website: the man is no raging, ignorant, self-centered fool like so many followers of McCain and Palin. And yes, I am biased and I am proud that I refuse to drink the Kool-Aid being offered by McCain and Palin. And no, I am not a Liberal, at least not as herein defined.

There are 6 themes that define a Liberal, according to Mr. Sullivan:

1. Belief in positive law – Liberals believe in laws written by humans, as opposed to natural law, which is law written by God.

2. Faith in utopianism – Liberals believe that society can be improved.

3. Preference for equality over liberty – Liberals believe, like Thomas Jefferson, that “all men are created equal” and are willing to use the coercive power of government to create that equality.

4. Belief in the benevolence of government and of human beings – Liberals believe that human beings are essentially good and that government should be an instrument for social improvement.

5. Belief in the perfectibility of human beings – Liberals believe that humans are more “blank slate” than anything else and that with education and a moral home environment, they can reach their full potential and be productive members of society.

6. Belief in the communal state – Liberals believe that “no man is an island” and that everyone’s contribution to society is important.

Now, before you start foaming at the mouth and declaring that this is precisely right and why you are voting for McCain instead of Obama, go to this website and read the definition of a conservative. I do believe that you will be very, very surprised, because what has been touted as conservatism in this country for the last 30 years is not even close to what it really is. I have no idea what the swill being proffered is, but I do know that it isn’t conservatism.
