Another Step on the Road — 3 Comments

  1. I feel discouraged. I worry about my daughters bringing more children into the world because I think we might be too far gone. It doesn’t change my behavior as far as trying to make my community a better place, but I don’t have a lot of hope for the world.

  2. You are a brave man, Jeff! Not many people start off retirement reading Karl Marx tomes. πŸ™‚

Well, I think the powers that be are too entrenched in the U.S. now for there to ever be radical change in Washington, but I do believe that we can all do our best to make our communities better places (for all!) to be. I think it’s important for people to believe that even the small positive actions they take can effect change. It’s so easy to get discouraged and to wonder if there’s any point in holding up your little candle in the darkness.

  3. Thank you. I might try to slog through Marx. Never have.

At the end of the harrowing “The Shock Doctrine” by Naomi Klein is a ray of hope. She also places it in Latin America. They have been through the worst of the shock doctrine and have learned from it. Unfortunately the U.S. has one of the biggest military bases in the world in Columbia and is still up to all kinds of bad deeds as well documented also in “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man”. His third book “Hoodwinked” elaborates on many of the good things going on in Central and South America. There is a myth that around this time there is a chance that the Eagle People (who use machines to conquer the earth) can dance with the Condor People (who’s first duty is to the earth and the nurturing of it and other beings.) They have been separated for 400 years and the Condors have been subjugated. Let us hope for that chance that they may unite in peace and take the Condors lead for a change.
